INSIDE
The 2004 Goble Family Reunion will be held in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania July 10, 2004. We have made arrangements with the Holiday Inn - Battlefield in Gettysburg. They will guarantee at least 40 rooms for our weekend in July. The room rate is $109.00 per night. I know that will seem high to many, but for a tourist town on the east coast it isn't bad. The Holiday Inn - Battlefield is 5 blocks south of Business Route 15 and very near the heart of town. Our accommodations are within walking distance of the National Cemetery where Abraham Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg address.
OUR PLANS
We will meet in the ballroom at the Holiday Inn on Friday, July
9, 2004 during the afternoon and evening as cousins arrive. We will be able
to start setting up our displays Friday evening if we wish.
A continental breakfast is included with our rooms but there is a restaurant in the lobby that will serve a more substantial meal.
Saturday, July 10th we will gather in the ballroom starting about 9:00a.m. The first portion of our reunion will be meeting and greeting, attaching our nametags, looking at the displays and having our photographs taken.
We are planning a Civil War theme and encourage you to bring information about your Civil War ancestors to share. We would like information about your Civil War ancestor as early as possible so that we can locate the monument on the battlefield representing the unit/company they fought in. (We hope to visit the monuments on Sunday.)
A luncheon will be served in one end of the ballroom after which we will have our program and association meeting. I have already spoken to several cousins who would like to make presentations. We will dismiss late afternoon so some individual exploring of Gettysburg will be possible. We will either provide suggestions or arrange a planned guided tour. As the date draws closer the program of events will become more defined.
Sunday morning, July 11, we will meet for breakfast and say our goodbyes. I am still working out the details for this event, which is optional. We may arrange a battlefield tour for Sunday afternoon if there is enough interest. Please let me know if you are interested in the breakfast and/or the tour.
RESERVATIONS AND COSTS
The reunion cost will be $25.00 per person. Children 12 to 6 will be $10.00 and children 5 and under will be free. This fee includes a luncheon on Saturday. The Sunday breakfast will be an additional cost for those wanting to participate.
Attached to this letter you will find a reservation form to fill out and return to the Holiday Inn. You may send a check or use a credit card to confirm your reservation. If you would prefer to phone the Holiday Inn you may do so by calling 717-334-6211. They do not have a toll free number we can use. If you want to arrange an extended stay, let them know at this time, if possible.

one of our own families would be of interest.
Albert
Clarence (10) Goble was born November 17, 1880 in a log cabin in Westfield,
Clark Co., Illinois. He was the 3rd of 9 children born to
Irvin/Irwin Green (9) Goble and Effie "Isabelle" Connelly in the
Thomas Goble tree.
Albert
married Jessie Belle Eldridge on October 2, 1909 in Lerna, Illinois at the home
of his parents. Albert and Jessie had 9
children also. It’s this family’s
patriotism I want to share.
Harold Leon (11) Goble - B. July 18, 1910
D. Mar. 19, 1990. Served in the
Navy in World War II as motor machinist on an air base on the Pacific Island of
Guam.
Hazel Irene (11) Goble’s husband: Ted Domurat - B. May 5, l914 D. April 9, 1973. He served in the Army during World War II.
Hazel Irene (11) Goble Domurat- B. July 12, 1914 D. May 23, 1988. She was not in the service. She worked as a welder in Rheem’s Bomb Factory in Chicago. She was their Dec. 1942 cover girl for the company magazine.
James Irvin (11) Goble - B. Feb. 27, l9l7 D. Feb. 10, 2001. Served in 771st Tank Battalion. in World War II. Participated in The Battle of The Bulge and Siegfried Line. He was wounded by a land mine. Received Purple Heart. (More on this man in the next issue of the Goble Family Newsletter.)
Marion Earnest (11) Goble - B. MAY 10, 1919 D. March 10, 1999. Served in a radar branch
of The Army Air Force during World War II. He was in the jungles of New Guinea.
Albert Calvin (11) Goble - B. Mar. 16, 1925. Served in the Navy in World War II as motor
machinist in Acorn 49 on the Pacific Island of Saipan.
Emma Jean (11) Goble’s husband: Clayton Eugene Davis - B.
Aug. 20, 1924 D. Jan. 22, 1999. Served in the Navy in World War II.
Stationed at Treasure Island, Calif. on the USS Palomas, a radar training ship
(yacht with sails).
Charles Joseph (11) Goble - B. Mar. 9, 1929. Served with 453rd Construction Engineers in Korean War. He rebuilt railroad bridges in Korea and helped construct POW compounds on the Island of Cheju. (More on this man in the next issue of the Goble Family Newsletter.)
Elsie Belle (11) Goble’s husband: Clifford Riley Smith - B. Mar. 29, 1926. Served in the Air Force during World War II as a gunner on B17. He was a Sgt. in the 1060 AAF BU from 1944 to1946.
“The NEWS was all important in our household during the war years.
The censors cut out a lot of their letters, but they still managed to let us
know where they were. Except for James. We didn’t hear from him for months when
he was wounded. We didn’t know what had happened to him.”[2]

In September 1923 I entered first grade in the Wallula Grade School – a one-room schoolhouse, grades 1 thru 8 in Wyandotte County, Kansas. Jessie Polfer Ferguson, then 10 years old, was my mentor and gave me a handkerchief on my sixth birthday, October 15th. Jessie’s birthday was October 21st and I gave her a hanky. We have exchanged handkerchiefs and birthday cards every year since then, this year receiving my 80th handkerchief!
When my mother, Anna May Carder Goble, passed away a friend of hers, Violet Brunnemer of Monterey Park, California, wrote to me and said that she was born in my family home. She also attended Wallula Grade School and my grandfather, Francis Goble, was her teacher. Scott Goble, of Bonner Springs Kansas has our grandfather’s teaching certificate, dated in 1882.
The name Wallula, meaning “clear running water” is of Indian origin, coming from the Umatilla Indian dialect.
At one time, a Kansas City Northwestern railway was operating near the schoolhouse. There was a one-room depot, also a trestle nearby. The railroad wasn’t operating in the early twenties. There was a small post office at Wallula in Weimer’s Country Store. My handkerchief friend has a street nearby named for her grandfather called Polfer Road.
I recently read a book called Hanky Panky, an intimate history of the handkerchief written by Helen Gustafson of Berkeley, California. I was thrilled to find that I have many handkerchiefs similar to the ones pictured in the book.
On October 30th my daughters, Judith Faulkner Oken and Patricia Faulkner Weaver invited my neighborhood friends to a hanky panky party! I had my collection of 80 years for them to view. They shared their own personal stories about their special handkerchiefs.
After high school and only two visits to California, my contact with Jessie has
been only many years of our handkerchief exchange. Jessie is now 90 years old and I received a handkerchief from her
on my recent 86th birthday.

for the movie included “assistant property man Russell Goble.” John Russell (11) Goble lived in Venice,
California until his death August 16, 2000.
He was a first cousin to my father.
He had a great sense of humor and was very politically astute. I visited him in California in 1994 and he
told me many interesting Goble stories.

Happy 50th anniversary to
George Corban Goble and Harriet Dean Cline Goble who were married November 11,
1953 in Berea, Kentucky.
They celebrated with family and friends on Saturday, November 15th
at the Berea United Methodist Church Parrish House in Berea, Kentucky.
Corban has been a loyal member of the Goble Family Association from it’s
outset and has provided an enormous amount of support with his research and
documentation.

Enid Goble Pritchard, 97, died Friday, November 14, 2003, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan. Dr. Matt Miles of First Baptist Church, Stillwater, officiated. Burial followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Chandler. Pritchard was born Oct. 26, 1906, to William Perry and Martha Ann Matthews Goble, who participated in the 1891 Land Run and who established a homestead in what was to become Lincoln County. She graduated from Chandler High School in 1924 and received a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree from Oklahoma State University. After teaching school for 31 years, she retired in 1968. She taught nine years in Lincoln County, four years at Hillside near Cushing, one year in Mulvane, Kan. and 17 years at Will Rogers Elementary School in Stillwater. She married Guy Millard Pritchard on Sept. 25, 1932. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Stillwater, where she taught in the primary department and was a member of the Ruth Class. She also belonged to the National Education Association, the Oklahoma Education Association, the Payne County Retired Teachers’ Association, the American Legion Auxiliary and Delta Zeta sorority. In 1991, her husband predeceased her. Her parents; five brothers, Lloyd, Glenn, Walter, Archibald and Nelson Goble; and four sisters, Vernal Riddick, Hazel Goble, Grace Campbell and Hilda Riddick, also predeceased her. She is survived by a sister, Eunice Manning, Stillwater; four nieces; and one nephew. Memorials may be made to The Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Fund, in care of Elsie Elliott, 8497 N. 41, Chandler, Okla., 74834.
Enid wrote frequently and provided a great deal of information about her ancestors. She was a remarkable lady.

Joan Shacklette passed away on Sunday, 12 October 2003 after a long illness. Joan was born Alice Joan (11) Cole, July 9, 1932 in Kinsley, Edwards Co., Kansas to Edward Cecil (10) Cole and Ethel Rosalie Little. She leaves her husband Benjamin Shacklette, sons Richard Cole (12) Shacklette (Leslie Gayle), Benjamin Craig (12) Shacklette (Marsha), Stuart Jay (12) Shacklette (Stephanie) and 8 grandchildren. Joan was an avid genealogist and contributor to the Goble research.

Jesse H. (9) Stidd, age 83
of Riverhead, New Jersey died August 14, 2003. He was the founder of Stidd
Machine Company. He was "Beloved husband of Dolores, Loving father
of James, Thomas, Jeanette, and Andrew. Cherished Grandfather of James, Andrea,
Sally, Tommy, Heather, Matthew, Brian and Dawn. Great Grandfather of Timothy.
Dear brother of Harold, Henry, Myrtle and Hazel."
Jess was a wonderful friend with a terrific sense of humor. He once sent me a
photo of himself and when I opened it - - it was a monkey. We had a running
joke in our email about how he typed with either one finger or two toes. He was
quite a guy and always made me laugh. I felt like he was a friend, yet we never
saw each other face to face. Jess was an avid genealogist and provided many
clues for the Goble/Stidd clan. He found the "Goble Chair" made by
Lemuel C. Goble and traveled to Milford, Pennsylvania to photograph it for me.
I will miss his lighthearted comedy and steadfast support. Evelyn Goble
